The Data
Protection Acts, Data Protection and Good Data
Management
The primary
objective of this course is to enable
participants to think about how their
organisation works with data on people, with
reference to the law, social justice and good
practice. Participants will learn about the
principles of Data Protection under the Data
Protection Acts 1998 and 2002 and examine
principles of compliance, using the law to
protect your information and freedom of
information about data subjects.
The
Aim of the Event
is for participants to
learn enough about the key aspects of the Data
Protection Acts so as to begin to understand how
to formulate a Data Protection Policy for their
own organisation.
The
Objectives for
the Event
are to enable participants
learn about the key aspects of the Acts, why and
how they apply to voluntary organisations and to
consider how it might apply specifically and in
detail to their own organisation.
During the training event
we will:
-
look at some of the
history and background to the Acts
-
examine the 8
Principles of the Act
-
discern their relevance for and
applicability to voluntary organisations in
general and those of the participants in
particular
-
look at important
developments resulting from the Acts
-
put it all together by
beginning to produce a model Data Protection
Policy for your organisation.
This course is for anyone who
has an interest in or responsibility for obtaining,
storing, retaining and using data on people who come
into contact with their organisation.

Making a
presentation to a group of individuals is one of
those unnatural acts we tend to shy away from.
Although the circumstances are unnatural, the
skills we actually use to make a good
presentation are ones we already use all the
time. This course will help you to examine how
to take control of your material, how to control
yourself, how to control your audience and
develop a personal action plan.
